Round 5: Manfeild Preview

The 2017/18 Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship has hit the halfway mark and there is still no clear championship favourite. Kaleb Ngatoa’s form in the first two rounds saw him stretch a big points lead only for it to come crashing down in round three after a retirement. Then Liam Foster came on form last weekend as Ngatoa struggled and saw his championship lead come under fire again.

This weekend will be crucial for the Championship leading Ngatoa, last time out at Manfeild he won two races and came second in the other. However, it’s also been a happy hunting ground for Foster and third-placed Callum Crawley. Foster scored his first podium at the season opener and Crawley stood on the top step of the podium for the first time too.

Further down the championship order Chris Symon, Reece Hendl-Cox and Conrad Clark will all be threatening¬†to spoil the top three’s party. Symon and Hendl-Cox have enjoyed some success this season but have both suffered DNF’s or exclusions. Meanwhile, rookie Clark will be searching for that elusive first win at a track he has done many laps around.

The two ‘dark horses’ of the weekend will be Billy Frazer and Brody McConkey. Frazer fell just short of taking his maiden win in Race 12 and showed dramatic improvement over last weekend while McConkey will bring years of experience matched only by Chris Symon to the front-running pack.
