Chris Symon has won a literal photo finish race seven of the Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship. With the track timing system down and typically tight Formula First racing ensuing, photo and video methods were used to verify the finishing results of the race.
Symon was the victor in an epic race-long battle for the win between himself, Dylan Grant, Mason Potter and Zach Blincoe. The quartet traded positions and turns at the front of the pack all race long, before Symon clench victory by half a car length over Grant.
Potter was next across the line in third, a mere quarter of a car length ahead of Blincoe in fourth place.
Jensen Foster was the next of the finishers in fifth place. Foster was engaged in a close fight with Blake Dowdall, who eventually finished sixth, for the position.
Hayden Lines and Mauro Iglesias had a tussle for bragging rights too. The pair fought for seventh with Lines eventually sealing the spot. Jenson Bate crossed the line in ninth place.
An early spin for Liam Nicholson had him in recovery mode the entire race, ending up in tenth place ahead of Cory Silk in 11th.
Darren Henderson came home 12th with Jack Groenewald in 13th and Daniel Peterson 14th.
