Chris Symon takes Taupo pole

Chris Symon has taken pole position for round four of the 2021-22 Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship at Taupo International Motorsport Park.

Symon, who took the Championship lead last time out at Pukekohe, set a blistering 1:48.128 lap time to take pole. Championship leader turned chaser Dylan Grant could only manage the second-fastest time, 0.515-seconds slower than Symon’s.

Mason Potter, on double duties in Formula Ford, set the third fastest time ahead of Zach Blincoe in fourth. Fifth fastest was Liam Nicholson with Jensen Foster sixth and Hayden Lines seventh fastest and quickest of the rookies.

SpeedSport Scholarship driver Jenson Bate qualified eighth with seasoned campaigner Craig Greenwood ninth. Cory Silk rounded out the top ten while Mauro Iglesias set the 11th fastest time.

Daniel Peterson was 12th fastest with Jack Groenewald, who returns to racer after major repairs to his car, 13th fastest
