Chris Symon has won race seven of the 2020-21 Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship at Pukekohe Park. As expected at the fast Pukekohe circuit the finish was a close as ever, Symon pipping Liam Foster by just 0.008s!
Series returnee Brody McConkey, joined the front two to make a battle pack right from the first lap. An early safety car on lap three for a stranded Liam Nicholson bought the field back together, but upon the restart on lap six Symon, Foster and McConkey quickly broke away again. Whilst crossing the line in third, McConkey was unfortunately disqualified post-race after a technical infringement.
Amy Smith wasn’t far behind the front three, finishing 0.564s behind in fourth-place on track, but inheriting a podium. Hayden Bakkerus was the best of the rookies finishing fourth overall, leading home Zac Blincoe, Dylan Grant, Mason Potter, Toby McCormack, Jensen Foster and Jamie Newton in tenth. Rob Baker came home 11th.
A coming together between Leo Scott and Louis Sharp meant the pair dropped back after being near the top five, eventually finishing 12th and 13th respectively.
Liam Nicholson did not finish after being stranded in the gravel trap.
