Dylan Grant has taken pole position at the season opener of the 2021-22 Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship, setting a 1:19.681 time. Grant, in his second season, topped the session by over 0.4s at Hampton Downs ahead of Zach Blincoe.
Reigning champion Chris Symon will start from third place, after setting a time 0.047s off a front-row start. Leo Scott will start alongside Symon, the race-winning duo will look to use their experience to outfox their younger rivals on the front row.
Mason Potter set the fifth-fastest time of the session, just shy of a second off the pole time. Jensen Foster will start in sixth place ahead of rookie Blake Dowdall and Hayden Lines. Another rookie, Jack Groenewalk, will start in ninth ahead of Liam Nicholson in tenth.
Speedsport Scholarship driver Jenson Bate recorded the 11th fastest time with Sabre Motorsport teammate Judd Christiansen a second behind in 12th. Mauro Iglesias and Daniel Peterson will start off the back row of the grid.
