Hendl-Cox triumphs in treacherous conditions

Reece Hendl-Cox has prevailed in a thrilling opening race of the season at Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon.

The rain started to pour profusely just prior to the start of the race, prompting teams to frantically to change to wet tyres for the race.

With diminishing light and increasing rainfall and winds, the officials decided to allow the race to start under normal circumstances. The race was relatively clean for the conditions, with only a few minor incidents occurring.

Finishing second to Hendl-Cox was Chris Symon who encountered an electrical problem on lap six. The issue progressively worsened his pace for the remainder of the race, seeing him fall well off the lead.

Matthew McCutcheon narrowly missed out on second place, settling for third, after charging down Leo Scott and a slowing Symon in the final few laps. Scott would finish fourth, an impressive result for both rookies.

On the other end of the experience spectrum was Ron Carter, finishing fifth. Liam Foster dropped from third on the grid to cross the line sixth after running off on the penultimate lap.

Braeden Snowden and Kyan Davie finished seventh and eighth ahead of Bree Morris and Louis Redshaw. Redshaw fell back after running in third on the open lap due to his visor fogging up considerably.

Asten Addy encountered trouble during the race, running off on the final corner on lap six, leaving him to finish in 11th. Amy Smith recovered to 12th ahead of Dave Scammell in 13th and Liam Nicholson in 14th. Nicholson too had a moment, spinning on the second lap.

Rob Baker, Bob Dillow and Mauro Iglesias rounded out the field.
