Billy Frazer, the youngest driver in the Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship, will contest the remainder of the season with a new team in Sabre Motorsport.
Frazer’s inclusion in the Championship was with ScorpionRacecars however, after a run of serious mechanical failures in the opening two rounds the 13-year-old never got to qualify let alone race.
“We’ve had some bad luck in the first two rounds of the season, so we changed teams and it seems to be going well at the moment.” Commented Frazer.
Frazer, nicknamed “Billy the Kid”, looks forward to joining the successful Sabre Motorsport fleet who has played a vital role in the careers of kiwi stars such as Shane van Gisbergen, Nick Cassidy and Brendon Hartley.
“It’s going to be really fun, I’m really looking forward to it. Sabre [Motorsport] make it fun and have a great friendly environment”
While he would like success on the track, he is weary of the fact that he is yet to contest a race and is treating this event as a “learning curve”.
“The weekend is going to be a big learning curve. I’m aiming to get faster every run, get used to the car and used to the track.”
“It’s been really enjoyable so far, it’s a big challenge but it’s going good so far. We’re progressing and that was the aim.”
Frazer was 13th fastest in this morning’s practice session. Practice two commences at 2:00pm.
