The first outing for 2017 is fast approaching for the Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship. The third round of the 2016/17 championship ventures to the Waikato region for the NZ Motor Cup at Hampton Downs.
It is Arran Crighton who currently has control of the championship, taking four out of six race wins and holding a 53 point lead in the points. Following a strong performance at Hampton Downs last season and his current form, Crighton will no doubt be on the podium this weekend.
Second in the points is Bramwell King, while he has just one win to his name this season, he has racked up points to ensure he can continue to contest in the later part the championship. Last time out at Hampton Downs, King finished second to current Champion Michael Shepherd in all three races, should that form continue it is likely he will rack up another win for the season.
While sitting one point off Chris Symon (third), a race win still eludes Matt Podjursky after a string of podiums across the past two rounds have been marred by mistakes.
Reece Hendi-Cox consolidated on his promising round one results at round two, taking a 32 point lead in the Rookie Championship ahead of Dylan Smith and Kaleb Ngatoa who are both tied in points sitting sixth.
Headlined by the Toyota Racing Series, the NZ Motor Cup event is the fourth round of the SpeedWorks Motorsport Championship. The Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship supports the TRS along with GTRNZ, Ssangyong Actyon Utes, Pro-7 Mazda’s and Honda Cup.
