Symon smashes slippery qualifying at Manfeild

Chris Symon has smashed qualifying for the penultimate round of the Hi-Q Components NZ Formula First Championship at Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon. Symon set a time 1.2-seconds faster than the next quickest, Reece Hendl-Cox

As the cars lined up on the dummy grid, the rain started to fall leaving the drivers a slippery track to navigate early on. As the session evolved, the rain stopped and the track started to dry which saw the times tumble with each passing lap.

Symon was the last driver to cross the line of the improving track before the rain started again, effectively freezing the order. With the championship-leading Hendl-Cox starting alongside Symon on the front row, Matt Higham starts third. Higham, a former champion, returns to the series after a eight-year hiatus from the class.

Liam Foster will start in fourth ahead of the highest placed rookie, Matthew McCutcheon. Asten Addy will start in sixth with Ron Carter and Amy Smith in seventh and eighth respectively. Leo Scott and Bree Morris round out the top then.
